Writing Home is a 67-page thought-provoking workbook by instructor Rob Whitbeck on creative writing, intended to inspire persons of all ages to write from the experience of place, particularly the northern West.

LEO's vision paper was ranked as the state's sixth most important sustainability project by former Gov. John Kitzhaber under the Oregon Solutions program. "Lighting Up The Libraries" called for rural libraries to step up to meet information and technology needs for the 21st century.

Components of the STARS program - Science Technology and Rural Students - launched by LEO and OMSI were incorporated into official NASA education policy in 2006.

LEO is a founding member of the Nonprofit Association of Oregon (NAO) - one of only a few initial founders from east of the Cascades.

In 2007, OMSI received the prestigious Leading Edge Award from the International Association of Science & Technology Centers and the National Leadership Award from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services - both based in large part on OMSI's innovative partnership with LEO.
